It is possible, or even likely really, that you have never heard of Kendrick Lamar. Until this point, Lamar has lived under the radar for the most part, known mainly by enthusiasts and those who took the time to give his music a chance. I personally came across his part in the cypher from the BET Music Awards last year, and have been hooked ever since.

Though I have only been able to listen through the album a couple of times, I can tell you right now it is going to be on repeat next to The Heist for the rest of the year. There is so much content on this album, both in minutes recorded and lyrical depth. I’ve listened to “Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst” at least 4 times and I can barely begin to wrap my head around the lyrics Kendrick delivers. It’s one of those albums I want to listen to over and over again, like when I stopped to rewind Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” 20 times in a row in 5th grade so I could memorize it. “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe”, “Swimming Pools”, and “Compton” are just a few of the other strong tracks on this gem, ranging from slow and reminiscent, to powerful, speaker destroying beats. And then there’s my personal favorite so far, “Backseat Freestyle”, a hard hitting banger that personally reminds me of Drake’s “Motto” or Wayne’s “A Milli”. Obviously Lamar is in a whole different league than these guys, but it is the same swagger style song in a whole new package. A bigger, heavier, nicely wrapped package. With a bow on it.

Seriously, check these tracks out and support a genuine artist! You can purchase the album HERE.
