Xilent: Do It & Beyond

June 13th, 2012 by Plexx

Just under a month ago, Eryk Kowalczyk, better known to the world as Xilent, hailing in Edinburgh, Scotland, released his E.P Ultrafunk, featuring some stunning tracks, combining Dubstep, Drum & Bass and Neurofunk. Xilent is record label AudioPorn’s golden boy, and no wonder. The dubstep world is still reeling from his groundbreaking hit ‘Choose Me II’, and this E.P again is a whole new take on Dubstep and Drum & Bass.

Favourites from this E.P are Do it and Beyond.

“Do It” features the classic Xilent build up, with female vocals hitting hard, and a jiggiling synth in the background. As we feel the build up emerge, the drop hits us at 1:05, and we really see Xilent’s roots in Drum & Bass and Dubstep shine through, with tight vocal slicing, and stunning synths. The neurofunk influence is obvious, and really does define this track as one of a kind. Neurofunk has always been drum and bass’s little brother, and Xilent really brings it out under examination, and passes with flying colours.

“Beyond” is possibly Xilent’s most famous track of this E.P, and again, lays claim to some of the most interesting and unique female vocals. This track is much more Liquid Drum & Bass, but with an obvious Dubstep touch. With another trademark early drop, the track is mainly built up on some astounding progressive synths, backed up by a solid bass and a womp that touches insanity.

Not too heavy, but literally redefining the boundaries of Dubstep, and definitely worth a download.
